The comment ‘retro' applies to a unusual kind of jewelry and the credit of its finding goes to Francois Curiel, head of the jewelry department for Christie's Auction House in New York, in the early 1970's. Associated with the period between 1935 and 1945, it was originated in France due to the efforts of Van Cleef and Arpels.
