The Eternal Quest for the 40.5 inch Japanese Officer Katana Sword is Answered

I started my long quest for the 40.5 inch Japanese Officer Katana Sword with Black Scabbard after hearing about these types of unique swords at a dinner party that my husband and I went to.  The husband of our hostess was continually talking about these Japanese weapons and how great they were, having seen them at someone else's home recently. I could practically see my husband drooling over the descriptions of these swords that our friend was furnishing to all of us.

As he went into more and more detail about the decorative features and superb craftsmanship of these authentic Japanese blades I knew I needed to find one for my husband. I had been wondering what to get him for his birthday and now I had the perfect answer right within my grasp.

The History and the Search

My husband is a history buff, loving to read up on all periods of history.  However, his favorite articles on ancient history come from the times when Japan and the Samurai warriors seemed to dominate the landscape. We have a number of wonderful art pieces throughout our home and all of them are in some way commemorating these ancient warriors.  We even have some other ancient swords on display but a 40.5 inch Japanese Officer Katana sword with black scabbard is quite special and unique in its own right.

I began my search for this perfect gift, knowing that my husband's birthday was only a couple of weeks away.  While searching, I learned that these Japanese blades were used by the officers who were a part of the Japanese army.  

As such, they were designed for both strength and beauty, most of which have a stainless steel blade, ivory handle, and usually a red design on it.  Because of the fact that it has this ornate design this feature ensured that the 40.5 inch Japanese Officer Katana Sword with Black Scabbard was distinctly different from the other swords that my husband had in his collection and would make a perfect gift for him.

Since my husband is also involved in the art of Japanese sword fighting, the strength of this sword in addition to its beauty was a draw.  I knew that he could choose to use the sword in a couple of different ways.  He could impress his sword fighting friends with his new Katana blade, or he could hang the sword on the wall of his study, adding glamour to his already impressive collection.

Most of the swords I discovered in my research efforts were about forty inches long and the best models would even come with a black scabbard in which to sheath the blade for a stunning visual display.  Some of the swords that I looked at had real ivory as the handle, but I knew, with my husband's affinity for animals, he would not feel right about owning a sword that contained real ivory.  So, I took my search in a different direction, looking for a Katana sword that had the look and feel of real ivory, without actually being made of it.

Fortunately I discovered the perfect style being offered for sale online. The one that I chose was a perfectly detailed 40.5 inch Japanese Officer Katana sword with Black Scabbard. There was even a  brilliant red design featured on blade's handle. The crimson coloring of the handle was offset by a faux ivory background, and the sword's scabbard was black with some red fabric woven in as well.  

I waited in anticipation for the Big Day to arrive. I believe that I was more excited than my husband when I handed him the carefully wrapped package. His face showed the surprise and awe that I expected and his favorite birthday gift is now hanging in a place of honor right on his office wall, just as I supposed it would.
