Bernardo Bertolucci does the nearly impossible with this sweeping, grand epic that tells a very personal tale. The story is a dramatic history of Pu Yi, the last of the emperors of China. It follows his life from its elite beginnings in the Forbidden City, where he was crowned at age three and worshipped by half a billion people... |

The Nanyue King’s Tomb – a monument of great interest
The Nanyue King’s Tomb features seven rooms. The tomb was concealed twenty meters underneath the top of the Xianggang Mountain prior to it being found in June of 1983. Zhao Mao inhabited the tomb and he was the second Nanyue King. Moreover, he was the grandson of Zhao Tuo, the founding father of the Nanyue Sovereignty.
The finding of the Nanyue King's tomb made available very important facts for the study of the history of the Han and Yue ethnicities in the Lingnan locality of the Qin and Han Dynasties. Subsequent to the finding, the Nanyue King’s tomb was guarded. Moreover, a fourteen thousand square meter museum accommodating the Western Han Nanyue King's tomb was put up in close proximity to the attraction.
The body of Zhao Mei was dressed in a green funeral outfit interlaced with silk thread. Fifteen people were buried alive with him and there were in excess of thousand luxurious burial items, among them jade and bronze objects. These thousands of funeral objects are the most significant pieces in the site. The items consist of 23 seals of which 3 are gold, 3 sets of musical instruments, gold and silver vessels and a chariot.
The Nanyue King’s Tomb is positioned on Xianggang Mountain to the west of Yuexiushan Park in Guangzhou. It is the first major tomb with color works of art in its stone rooms in the Lingnan Area. The museum has three fundamental exhibits. They are the past collections of the Nanyue Kingdom, excavations from the Nanyue King's Tomb put together in the renovated seven tomb chambers and the initial spot of the tomb. Visitors can stay at a Guangzhou serviced apartment like Ascott Guangzhou and see the Nanyue King’s Tomb and the surrounding area as well. This hotel will not only make you feel at home, but also allows you to have a fun filled vacation.

The Eye of Jade $11.99 "Having her own detective agency would give her the independence she had always longed for. It would also give her the chance to show those people who shunned her that she could be successful. People were getting rich. They owned property, money, business, and cars. With new freedom and opportunities came new crimes. There would be much that she could do." Present day, Beijing. Mei Wang is a modern, independent woman. She has her own apartment. She owns a car. She has her own business with that most modern of commodities -- a male secretary. Her short career with China's prestigious Ministry for Public Security has given her intimate insight into the complicated and arbitrary world of Beijing's law enforcement. But it is her intuition, curiosity, and her uncanny knack for listening to things said -- and unsaid -- that make Mei Beijing's first successful female private investigator. Mei is no stranger to the dark side of China. She was six years old when she last saw her father behind the wire fence of one of Mao's remote labor camps. Perhaps as a result, Mei eschews the power plays and cultural mores -- guanxi -- her sister and mother live by...for better and for worse. Mei's family friend "Uncle" Chen hires her to find a Han dynasty jade of great value: he believes the piece was looted from the Luoyang Museum during the Cultural Revolution -- when the Red Guards swarmed the streets, destroying so many traces of the past -- and that it's currently for sale on the black market. The hunt for the eye of jade leads Mei through banquet halls and back alleys, seedy gambling dens and cheap noodle bars near the Forbidden City. Given the jade's provenance and its journey, Mei knows to treat the investigation as a most delicate matter; she cannot know, however, that this case will force her to delve not only into China's brutal history, but also into her family's dark secrets and into her own tragic separation from the man she loved in equal parts. The first novel in an exhilarating new detective series, The Eye of Jade is both a thrilling mystery and a sensual and fascinating journey through modern China. |

Jade Man's Skin $11.99 In this soaring epic, Daniel Fox weaves the ancient myths and legends of feudal China into a fantasy world of brutal war and brittle passion, immortal gods and mystical creatures.   With the long-chained dragon now free and the rebels’ invasion smashed by her exultant fury, the balance of power has changed. Young emperor Chien Hua is no longer struggling for survival; now he is ambitious to strike back. As treacherous General Ping Wen whispers in the emperor’s ear, not even Chien Hua’s beloved concubine or his most trusted bodyguard can reason with him. Worse, prolonged exposure to magical jade is changing him radically: His increasingly godlike powers are making him dangerously rash. But with the dragon patrolling the skies above and the strait beneath, the emperor’s forces have no hope of launching a counterattack—until a goddess moves to interfere. Yet neither the clash of armies nor the opposing wills of goddess and dragon can decide ultimate victory or defeat. The fate of the war lies in the blood-deep bonds between the dragon and the boy Han, her jailer and her liberator—and in the prices both will pay for their freedom. From the Trade Paperback edition. |
