Unusual Wedding Dresses
Today, the grandmothers long flowing white wedding dresses with a train and veil sporting a Tiara is not the norm anymore for the brides wedding attire. Tradition has been changed, and the new generation of brides are looking for something unusual. Thinking outside of the box is now the norm, and today's brides are creating some lasting impressions, not only for themselves, but also for their guests with unusual wedding dresses.
Themes are also becoming popular, replacing the stuffiness of tradition and bringing in a lighter more fun atmosphere to a wedding reception. Just lately some unique and modern weddings have consisted of Scottish attire, coffee at Starbucks, underwater in scuba gear, or in a Hot Air balloon.
The important thing to remember is this is your special day, have fun and plan the wedding that will make you happy, and don't be persuaded by family members to stick with tradition just because that's how it has always been done.
The wedding dress is usually the second tradition next to location to be changed from the norm to the unusual. The gothic scene is still a popular lifestyle and many brides are wearing beautiful black victorian type gowns to be married in. Another popular style that parts from the norm is celtic wedding dress with there gold embroidery, long flowing sleeves and corseted waists.
Many brides who are born in countries other than America often feel the need to remain true to their cultures and their families, and this pull can be quite strong on their wedding day. Many women are finding ways to combine traditions from their respective homelands while coming up with something completely unusual. For instance, some Vietnamese brides get married in the traditional long ao dai, but have the wedding dresses made up in stunning western white styles, while other brides combine a Japanese kimono design into their dress.
Other women find aspects of tradition stifling, and will mix up their ceremony with Chinese-style zest. The bride might dress her bridesmaids in red or slinky black Cheongsams, dresses with high collars and slit sides.
Maybe you are going for the fairy tale wedding theme with a medieval or Renaissance flair to your wedding dresses. The important thing is to form an idea of what you would like to have in a wedding dress, and then start your research from there.
When buying unusual wedding dresses you can pretty much forget your local wedding stores. Businesses are slow to change with the times and are likely to only carry traditional wedding styles. You might have better luck searching online or in an antique store.
If you are looking for that totally off the wall style that is different than any other, think about commissioning a seamstress to create the perfect unusual wedding gown for you. There are many seamstresses that are willing to create the perfect unusual wedding gowns made entirely to suit your tastes and style.
Ask your local fabric supplier for recommendations, they will be able to help you select a style that will look unusual on you and you'll feel comfortable wearing. You may also be able to spend less by having a gown made for you.
The key is to pick out the perfect gown that you will be happy with, remember this is your special day, and you will want to wear whatever is going to make you happy.
Hope all brides can find their perfect unusual wedding dresses!

Kimono And the Colors of Japan (Paperback) $60.15 This distinctive volume reveals a unique antique kimono collection through various delicate Japanese colors and their use in kimono. The Japanese sensibility is immediately apparent in the classification of the nine traditional color categories of red, green, pink, blue, brown, purple, yellow, black/white, and gold/silver. Each spread presents a single color showing a page-wide photo of a kimono accompanied by a description of the color and its meaning in the context of Japanese culture. The author explains, "We organized the kimono and obi (sash) according to what I like to call Japanese Kokoro no Iro`-colors of the Japanese heart. Each category presents what individual colors express or signify. For example, we use white, black and gold as an expression of cheer. Red indicates the sun, blood, and fire. White, black, and silver express sadness." With the knowledge of both Western and traditional Japanese fashion cultures, Yumioka presents and describes his collection in an easily accessible style. |
